Feng Shui Design
The Viana Hotel and Spa was designed around the basic principles of the ancient art of feng shui. The Hotel was designed from inception with the help of our consultants from Feng Shui Long Island working in concert with our interior designer, Jorge Portero, to create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
To quote Feng Shui Long Island, “The powers of feng shui can enrich and transform your life to create endless possibilities to help create good health, better relationships and increased wealth. The healing force of feng shui helps to bring harmony and balance into your life through simple and effective adjustments by providing people with more beautiful, natural surroundings.”
Upon entering the lobby, guests are greeted by a beautiful colored glass compass inlaid into the elegant marble floor. The compass is an important symbol of feng shui, defining the bagua (the energy map of the building) to access a deeper sense of the feng shui areas. The five key elements of feng shui (earth, wood, water, metal and fire) are represented throughout the hotel. Each floor of the hotel has been thoughtfully designed to feature custom artwork and photography representing one of the five elements.
Everything from the colors used in the guest rooms, hallways and public areas to the placement of the bed and furniture in each room has been meticulously planned. Even the crystals that hang from the chandeliers are there to create the right Qi (pronounced Chi), which is the “energy” in the sense of “life force”. There are even features in the structure itself that you will never see, affecting the atmosphere of the hotel and in turn the mood of its inhabitants.
