Designed to Heal: The Feng Shui Philosophy at Viana
Walk into the Viana lobby and you’ll feel something shift. That’s not an accident. Viana was designed from inception in partnership with Feng Shui Long Island and renowned interior designer Jorge Portero — and the result is a property where the ancient art of Feng Shui isn’t decorative. It’s structural, woven into the bones of the building so that guests experience its effects whether they’re looking for them or not.
THE BAGUA COMPASS
At the center of the lobby floor, a stunning colored glass Bagua compass is built directly into the marble. In Feng Shui, the Bagua is the energy map of a space — defining the areas connected to health, relationships, prosperity, and well-being. At Viana, that map isn’t on a wall. It’s beneath your feet from the moment you arrive.
THE FIVE ELEMENTS
Feng Shui is organized around five foundational elements — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water — and at Viana, each one is intentionally present throughout the property.
- Wood represents growth, vitality, and upward movement. It appears in the bamboo flooring and the living, organic textures woven throughout Viana’s spaces — a reminder that the natural world and human well-being are inseparable.
- Fire represents energy, passion, and transformation. It shows up in the warm lighting, the vibrant palette, and the sense of aliveness that greets guests the moment they enter.
- Earth represents stability, nourishment, and grounding. It’s the anchor of the Viana experience — the feeling of being held and supported that guests often can’t quite name, but always feel.
- Metal represents clarity, precision, and focus. It’s present in the clean lines of the architecture, the refined finishes, and the sense of order that makes Viana feel both luxurious and calm.
- Water represents flow, wisdom, and renewal. It moves through the hydrotherapy spa, the heated indoor pool, and the underlying energy of a property designed to restore.
Each floor of the hotel carries a custom art piece representing one of the five elements, and the hallway photography reflects all five working in balance — guiding guests through the building in a way that supports flow, calm, and emotional well-being.
GUEST ROOMS
In every guest room, the placement of the bed, desk, and furniture has been meticulously planned by the Feng Shui design team. The colors, the chandelier crystals, the orientation of every element — all calibrated to cultivate the right Qi, the life force energy that Feng Shui masters have studied for thousands of years. The goal is simple: a room that helps you rest more deeply than you expected.
HIDDEN FEATURES
And then there are the features you’ll never see at all — structural elements built into the hotel itself, invisible to the eye but felt by every guest who enters. These are the details the Feng Shui team insists make the greatest difference. The ones that affect the atmosphere in ways guests often can’t quite name, but always feel.
Complimentary guided Feng Shui tours of the property are available on request. Ask at the front desk.
